Over 300 attendees came to hear from leading scholars, policymakers, and practitioners and to discuss how to translate Pope St. John XXIII's Pacem in Terris for the twenty-first century. The conference included several speeches by key scholars and policymakers alternated with breakout sessions on compelling topics in peacebuilding today, such as human rights today, development, nuclear weapons, reconciliation, the environment and peace, theology of peacebuilding, and more. Cardinal Peter Turkson, President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, was a featured plenary speaker.
