Burundi held presidential elections on May 20. The Conference of Catholic Bishops of Burundi organized over 2500 election observers, and based on their reports, they have noted several irregularities in the polls. These include voter intimidation, confiscation of voting credentials, and exclusion of observers during vote counting. While noting these problems in a May 26 press release, the bishops simultaneously urged the people victimized by these irregularities to remain peaceful and to use the justice system to address the problems.
