Following their Extraordinary Plenary Assembly, the National Episcopal Conference of Congo issued a new statement calling for elections in DRC. The message re-affirms the bishops' commitment to the New Years Eve Agreement of 2016 to have elections in 2017, despite the passing of the year without elections occurring. They state, "CENCO reminds all political actors and the entire Congolese people that the New Year's Eve Agreement is not dead. It is and remains the only consensual roadmap to emerge from this political crisis that has lasted too long."
