The Catholic Church Moves Towards Nonviolence? Just Peace Just War In Dialogue

Building on the April 2016 conference in Rome on "Just Peace and Nonviolence," and led by the teaching of Pope Francis, this conference on Oct. 6-7 at the University of San Diego's Frances G. Harpst Center for Catholic Thought and Culture seeks to further the dialogue on Catholic ethics and nonviolence and the re-examination of traditional just war teaching. This event brings together peace activists and scholars with military theorists to discuss potential common ground for peace. Cardinal Peter Turkson, of the Holy See's Diacastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, will participate, and other participants include: Marie Dennis of Pax Christi International, Bishop Robert McElroy of San Diego, Stephen Colecchi of the USCCB, Rev. John Dear, Rev. William Headley, C.S.Sp., and Gerald Schlabach of the University of St. Thomas, as well as Col. David Barnes of the U.S. Military Academy, Col. Edward Barrett, of the U.S. Naval Academy, Col. James L. Cook, of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Maj. Gen. Charles Dunlap, Jr., USAF (Ret.), of the Center on Law, Ethics and National Security at Duke Law School.
