The Journal of Social Encounters is a new, peer-reviewed online journal. It is a multidisciplinary publication examining issues of peace, conflict, and social justice across the globe. The journal will publish essays from any part of the world, but has a standing commitment to include essays from African authors in each issue in order to promote and make better known African scholarship on peace, conflict, and social justice. The journal is published by the Center for Social Justice and Ethics at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Nairobi, Kenya, in collaboration with the Department of Peace Studies at the College of St. Benedict/St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota. The inaugural issue of the journal includes a paper by Gerard Powers, Coordinator of the Catholic Peacebuilding Network, entitled "Toward an Integral Catholic Peacebuilding." It also includes work from authors from Kenya, the U.K., the Netherlands, Canada.
